Gunfight / Pinned Under a Jet // God's Lightning / Clark Kent's Girlfriend black vinyl Bavaria France 001, 1984 Lineup: Ginger Chittenden - vocals / Kevin Landes - saxophone / Tom Paine - percussion / Steve Walker - bass / Tim Carter - guitar Label notes: Recording Info: Notes: Reviews: Musically this is well-executed, noisy garagepunk, but Ginger, you can't sing. Seriously, your monotonous wails makes me cringe. And what you did to Pinned Under A Jet is absolutely inexcusable. And you other guys, what on earth were you thinking? Let someone else handle the microphone. Please. This stuff is really good, except for the tone-deaf singer. |

Rhythm of Industry / Words as Venom / Always Alone // We All Americans / Upright Man / Your Mind's Unsound 500 on black vinyl w/inserts Gelatinous GEL001, 1987 Lineup: Ferd - everything Label notes: Ferd's label. Recording Info: Produced and Engineered by Ferd. Notes: My copy came with a lot of inserts and promotional junk (like business cards, ads for the first Grindstone compilation, letters, etc.). Reviews: The most interesting thing about this record is the description of Ferd that the clerk at the store gave me...Ferd was a true eccentric and sunk all his money into recording gear. Setting foot into his studio space was like entering the cockpit of a spaceship--racks of expensive looking gear, blinking lights everywhere, and a madman at the controls, twisting tapes, pressing buttons, and cackling like Doctor Frankenstein. To my ears, this is pretty typical "industrial" crud, with loops and synths and noises and all that stuff that excites tin-eared basement dwellers everywhere. I find it sorely lacking in energy and scorch. |
