Now I Flail - S/T 7":
Glass Eye / Carved in my Knife // Price You Pay / Make Me Sick / Ballad of Brian
10 test pressings
black vinyl
DSI Records 17 / This Indenture 1, 1989?

Lineup: Herr Johann Schtabb lends his tenor to some of the songs.

Recording Info:

Notes: This turns up so rarely (I've only seen two of the commercial issue), that there can't be very many floating around. Maybe someone's got a couple hundred in their garage?

Reviews: Musically this is one of the better DSI releases--good, off-kilter mid-tempo rock. Unfortunately the vocals are terrible--limp and lifeless.

Does anyone have the regular version of this record for sale or trade? If so, email me!

Travolta // Life You Won
10 test pressings
black vinyl
DSI Records 18, 1993

Lineup: Sean Epstein / David Nicholaus / Mike Jetton / Rick Ivan Stein / David Smith

Recording Info: Recorded at WGNS in July, 1993. Engineered by Charles Bennington, produced by Scott Thornson.

Notes:

Reviews:

Some notes from Sean Epstein: This hit top 10 on a station in San Francisco. A nephew of John Travolta had a copy but it was stolen from him. The Sisters of Morrissey have a website: http://members.tripod.com/~the_sisters/ and occasionally threaten a comeback, and this is partially true, a 1997 session is being worked on still.

Between 2000 & 2004, there have been several cover songs recorded for cover compilations/tributes by assorted alumni members.

MFD - Boris 7":
Boris // Passenger Train
10 test pressings
500 copies on blue vinyl (no PS)
100 copies on blue vinyl with hand-numbered sleeves
400 promo copies on blue vinyl w/sleeves DSI Records, 1988

Lineup:

Recording Info:

Notes: Sleeveless copies came free with some grey vinyl copies of the Full Volume LP. Flex! said 1000 copies, half with sleeves (promo copies), half without (free with the second MFD LP). I have two different sleevs--one printed with purple ink that says PROMO COPY across the bottom, and one printed with black in that's a numbered edition of 100 copies which doesn't say promo anywhere on it. I've just assumed that Flex was correct in the total number pressed and total number without sleeves when putting this together.
Can anyone from MFD or DSI shed light on this?

Reviews: Pretty disposable. A different version of Boris from Full Volume backed with a cut off the first LP.

I'm looking for a test pressing of this record (and any other MFD stuff!). Drop me a line if you can hook me up.

DSI Records LP1, 1987

Lineup: David Rapavi - vocals / Richard Gibson - guitar / Tom Downey - bass / Brock Helvie - drums

Recording Info: Recorded at Black Pond, Sept '86 to Feb '87.

Notes:

Reviews: I seriously love this LP. It's straight-ahead punk rock with a real nasty, jagged guitar sound. The songs are memorable, and except for Jeepster, all eminently enjoyable (do I get bonus points for using a vocabulary word?). DC needed more bands like this. Hell, DC still needs more bands like this. Someone, please, save us from the post-thrash indietronic screamo jangle invasion!
