Reviews: An excellent debut. Not punk in the year zero, spitting teeth, safety pins and razor blades kinda way. These guys embraced the punk explosion without rejecting their roots--just take a look at the lyrics to Rock And Roll Punks--that's about as far from "No Elvis, Beatles, or the Rolling Stones in 1977" as you can get. This is great rock n roll with scorch and verve. Last Time is a competent, but rather unimaginative Stones cover. The Stones, much more than the Pistols, seem to be Zehn Archar's touchstone. Play Satisfaction a couple times and you'll know exactly where Zehn Archar are coming from.

Reviews: This definitely has a punk rock pedigree. It was recorded with the band's "mobile studio," which from the sound of things was a four track and a couple mics. Unfortunately, while it's possible to get a very good sounding record out of that kinda equipment, the band don't quite manage it. The guitar sound is weedy, the drums are weak, and the vocals are mushy. The songs are pretty good: She Tried Again is the only one I actively dislike ("Now I'm gone she plays my songs / she plays my album every day" and further masturbatory fantasizing). The other three all rock nicely and it's a real shame they weren't recorded better. I imagine if there are any live Zehn Archar tapes, they're killer.
